Fundraising for cancer research has always been something that the Milo community has been a leader in, but this weekend they did something that was amazing, and hopefully will help many friends & strangers.
This little town of 117 people, hosted a 1 day event that raised over $50,000 for The ALBERTA CHILDRENS HOSPITAL, THE TOM BAKER CANCER CENTER & THE CANADIAN CANCER SOCIETY.
11 volunteers raised pledges, and then had the rights to shave thier heads auctioned off. Some sold the rights to shave their eybrows, mustaches or beards. It was an absolutely unbelievable event. And there were no media present. I'm sure that the story will make it to the presses somewhere, and I know that recognition isn't what this was about. But I also know that everyone there knew they were a part of something very special that night. People opened up their hearts & their wallets for a great cause.
I am not doing justice to this story, I am just so proud to be a part of this community that I had to say something. I will continue to post pictures on this sight and update the details as they come in. So if anyone else who was there has some pictures or thoughts they would like to send in, just e-mail them to profgregoire@uofmilo.com & I will try to include them on the site. And if you want to contribute to this amazing fundraiser it's not too late, just call Scotiabank in Milo & they'll make sure your donation gets included as well as get you a tax receipt.
